Curren$y: The Listener’s Guide
Curren$y is the blueprint for any artist who wants to go on their own path and the embodiment of betting on yourself. But, when talking music Spitta’s got a ton of projects..so where do you start?
Here’s my guide on how to navigate Curren$y’s catalog…
COVERT COUP - This is considered Spitta’s magnum opus to a lot of people. The ten song project marking what some think is one of the greatest mixtapes ever. With features from Smoke DZA, Fiend, Freddie Gibbs and production for the legendary Alchemist. You cannot be a Curren$y fan without listening to this tape. A classic.
PILOT TALK SERIES - I honestly think the Pilot Talk Series is just as essential as Covert Coup. It is the embodiment of Curren$y’s brand all the way. My favorites being the Audio Dope Series, 560SL, Breakfast, Skybourne with KRIT and more.
CIGARETTE BOATS - The Harry Fraud produced EP is one of my personal favorites from Spitta. With Biscayne Bay, Sixty-Seven Turbo Jet…it screams the message of hard work paying off.
NEW JET CITY - Now this is a personal favorite. New Jet City is probably the apex of coolness as it gets. With the intro, Three 60 with Juicy J, Purple Haze with Lloyd and Trinidad James, it provides a great listen and a relaxing one while also pushing the messages having to earn what you want.
VERDE TERRACE - There are very few rappers that the label ‘’Student of the Game’’ to the next level. With this tape Spitta shows you his influences while also showing you how he blends them to curate his own style. An essential if you are trying to see how dedicated to the craft he is.
SMOKEE ROBINSON - I shouldn’t have to explain this one. If you get it, you get it.
CONTINUANCE - A album showing how far Alchemist and Curren$y have came and what their partnership has down for the rest of rap and the embodiment of longevity. A great listen.
THE STONED IMMACULATE - Probably one of Spitta’s more known projects amongst mainstream listeners. Jet Life with Krit and Wiz and Capitol being the high points.
But, that’s it for the Listener’s Guide. I hope this helps you get into one of my favorite rap artists ever.
