Is Hip-Hop Dead? No.

I’ve been seeing a lot of talk about this being the end of the genre and from my perspective my short answer is no.

The uniqueness about hip-hop is it’s variety and how it pushes black culture forward.

I think what’s happening with hip-hop is that streaming, although it has many pro’s and con’s is creating a form of parity we have ever seen.

Social media combined with streaming being the big thing now has created a very unique dynamic within the music space. Everybody is fighting for attention. But, a lot of people aren’t doing it in the correct way, or at least what’s beneficial to themselves.

I think the panic we are seeing is much more centric to mainstream rap than it is the whole landscape. It reminds me a lot of the late 2000’s where people thought rap was dead, but then bloomed the blog era.

When we hear the notion, ‘’you have to go out and search for new music’’ it’s sort of always been true for a while? In some way shape or form, with the death of some hip-hop spaces. The road to navigating the land of music bubbles is just different. There’s still quality music being put out. There’s just more personal responsibility on the listener to be their own filter instead of hip-hop, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
