Hip-Hop’s 50th: Unquantifiable

The impact that black people have on culture in general is already massive. Hip-Hop’s 50th seems like a chance to of course appreciate our legends. But, most importantly I believe it calls for a realignment. Hip-Hop has provided a way for people to express themselves in ways that creatively reach to everyone listening.

The ability to convey your experiences through words and rhythm is nothing short of mind blowing. The ability to connect with a listener in such a short amount of time. The ability for generations whether young or old to bond together over love of the genera is part of what it’s all about.

The tree of influence in hip-hop is also one of the signs of the importance of it. From rapper to rapper, from rapper to listener. We see that everything must come from something. We can’t get certain rappers without certain rappers and the way hip-hop has evolved shows black people’s creativity.

Hip-Hop history is black history. If we don’t preserve it, people are doomed to rewrite. Luckily there’s so many ways to give our genre flowers nowadays, like showing your favorite rapper love, talking about the unsung heroes of the genre and so on. There’s a lot to do to help the genre out there if you really want to.

But, I think what the years have taught us before is to give people their flowers while they can smell them. The amount of legends that we’ve had pass at such an earlier age is sobering, especially considering how young the genre is. The conversations about prioritizing health only increasing is heartwarming, but also important.

From the beginning until now, what makes hip-hop great is the community as a whole. No matter how big or small, to the men and the women, to all generations, hip-hop is a group effort. As black people grow, hip-hop grows with a progression of new mindsets, new knowledge and so on.

Rest in Peace to the ones gone and the one’s gone too soon.
