Larry June and Alchemist deliver on the Great Escape.

Larry June exceeds expectations and Alchemist keeps his form on ‘’The Great Escape.’’

My biggest worry going into this album was if June would get overshadowed by Alchemist production in addition to the all-star lineup of features.

The Great Escape is a great listen for those wanting to ease into Alchemist production and adds a little bit more if you are just a fan of Larry June himself, or like both artists on this album.

June for the most part is a very simple rapper to understand, and stylistically, doesn’t step out of his comfort zone that much. However, he does it well and adds a little more depth to his brand on the Great Escape. From Solid Plan, to Ocean Sounds, and What Happened to the World, he gives us just a little more insight to his mind and viewpoints.

The Great Escape doesn’t have many faults when it comes to sequencing, features and the instrumentals. Alchemist once again shows you why he’s the best with his upper echelon sample selection and chopping abilities. One of his strengths that’s displayed time and time again is his ability to work around rappers and find a style that works best for them, which elevates June the entire project.

The biggest plus to the album are the features, adding a boost of excitement through the 46-minute album. From a surprise visit from Slum Village, to Boldy, to Ty Dolla Sign, all the features had intention and purpose on this collaboration.

In closing, an extremely enjoyable listen that you’ll love if your a fan of Larry or Alchemist.
