Schoolboy Q keeps going the distance.
Q shows just how creative he can get with his latest album BlueLips. The rappers ability to be able to blend accessibility and yet still give you the left field experiences all in one album is one of TDE rappers’ strongest skills. He can give you a radio hit. He can give you a deep cut. He can do it all.
From tracks that really tug the heartstrings like Blueslides and Lost Times, to the gritty Q we know and love on Cooties, this album give us a taste of how multi-dimensional Q is amongst the fears, hopes, and dreams of his life.
Bluelips takes the transparency that Q usually gives us and pairs it with jarring, yet great production choices to make for a wild yet enjoyable ride that takes us everywhere in his psych.
I think Q’s points from an earlier interview a year or two ago really echoed through this album. We focus on hip-hop so much as a competitive sport that we don’t appreciate it as an art form as much. And he showed that with the rich quality of his latest work.
